Position Overview:

We are looking for a Disability Evaluator/HR Assistant (DEHA) with superb written and verbal communication skills. This position within the HR department will play an important role in meeting the company’s obligations under the federal government’s AbilityOne program. This role is responsible for the scheduling evaluations for all IEE’s and ensuring that documents of disabilities are completed properly. The DEHA will be trained on the AbilityOne program and the federal guidelines. This role will also provide excellent customer service and reliable support in functional areas of the Human Resources Department.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct individual eligibility evaluations of employees with disabilities by telephone to determine whether or not individuals are competitively employable based on the criteria set forth by the AbilityOne Commission.

  • Interview employees by telephone and transcribe information into an evaluation template.

  • Assist with ensuring initial evaluations are completed within the first 30 days of employment and annual evaluations are complete within the timeframe required by the federal government.

  • Enter evaluation dates and other pertinent information in the company database.

  • Manage contract employee medical documentation, leaves, and following up with clients on employee status.

  • Provide backup support to other members of the HR team, especially during periods of time off, to ensure evaluation scheduling, reporting and database administration remain consistent and accurate.

  • Respond to and/or triage to the appropriate HR team member(s) emails from the team’s general mailboxes.

  • Other tasks as assigned

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must pass a Federal Background check

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; must read, write, speak and hear English.

  • Friendly, professional and clear speaking voice.

  • Prior administrative or HR experience in an office or virtual professional setting.

  • Type approximately 45 wpm – preferably while listening to the call, transcribing.

  • Willingness to be flexible to conduct evaluations for a nationwide workforce during the hours of 9am-8pm ET.

  • Sensitivity to work with individuals with disabilities and handle highly confidential information.

  • Quiet home office, computer, and headset.

Preferred Requirements:

· Highly autonomous; ability to triage employee issues.

· Knowledge of Social Security disability benefits and/or the Ticket-to-Work program.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand or sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, and type on a keyboard. The employee must also be able to reach with hands and arms, balance, speak clearly, and hear. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision depth perception, and the ability to adjust and focus.

Work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is working from the quiet of their home office. No background noise such as TV, dogs barking, cell phone ringing, people talking, etc.
