Job Summary The Institute of Cognitive Science is encouraging applications to fill an Accounting Technician I position in Finance & Research support. The Institute is growing – we are looking for a diligent, full-time data entry specialist to add to our team. The successful candidate will help facilitate a high energy research institute in supporting all back-end purchasing activities. Who We Are The University of Colorado is home to world class researchers and facilities in Cognitive Neuroscience, with strengths in executive function, learning, memory, language, and social cognition. The Department of Psychology & Neuroscience includes programs in Behavioral Neuroscience; Behavioral, Psychiatric, and Statistical Genetics, Clinical Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, and Social Psychology. ICS spans and connects researchers from nine departments – Psychology & Neuroscience; Computer Science; Education; Information Science; Integrative Physiology; Linguistics; Philosophy; Architecture and Planning; and Speech, Language and Hearing – and offers 2 interdisciplinary Ph.D. programs as well as certificate programs in Cognitive Science and Human Language Technology.


The Institute of Cognitive Science (ICS) (https://www.colorado.edu/ics/about-us) is an interdisciplinary unit that fosters rich scientific interchange across researchers from a broad range of fields. Its mission is to understand and enhance human cognition, learning, and development through the creation of interdisciplinary partnerships.

ICS hosts the Intermountain Neuroimaging Consortium, the university’s neuroimaging center (https://www.colorado.edu/mri/). It consists of a Siemens Prisma scanner with multi-band capability, special shielding for high-quality data acquisition, dedicated operations, and technical staff, and a myriad of interface devices for providing stimuli and recording responses. Importantly, it also maintains a high-performance computational cluster as well as a data archiving facility to support data collection, storage, and analysis, all of which are supported by data scientists.


What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be:

  • Work closely with the ICS Finance Team and Grant Managers in data entry directly related to purchasing, petty cash, travel reimbursements and any other routine form completion assistance that may be needed. In addition, this position may assist with the electronic filing of financial records.

  • Use the Concur system to enter purchase and reimbursement data as received, considering monthly deadlines.

  • Data entry to process forms for stipends, subject payments, etc. in response to the efforts of the research teams.

  • Track and follow up as needed until the multi-step process is completed.

  • Maintain all record keeping in accordance with ICS processes and sponsored project requirements.

  • Continually develop knowledge of compliance and sponsored project recordkeeping/compliance procedures.

What You Should Know: The position is envisioned as a remote work position at the current time but may support a hybrid (in-person/remote) structure in the future.

This is a Classified position and requires candidates to have a residency in Colorado.

What We Can Offer


  • The annual hiring rate for this position is $34,200.00-$36,000.00.

What We Require

  • Must be a resident of Colorado.

  • One year of experience in an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position.

  • Appropriate education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

  • Willingness to continually build knowledge of the position and Institute procedures.
