Job Description Discover is seeking an experienced background investigator to join a team of 6 responsible for rendering employment eligibility decisions for all roles and placements within the organization. Investigators work in a high-volume, regulated space handling sensitive and confidential information. Verbal and written communication skills are critical. Successful investigators are detail oriented, multi-taskers with a comprehension of legal jargon. Responsible for the screening of new hires, contractors, internal transfers, and other visitors as needed to ensure security and safety of employees and facilities. Responsible for adhering to multiple federal and state regulations regarding employment eligibility decisions completed on multiple components including, but not limited to, criminal, credit, education, employment, and drug screening. Actively manages and escalates risk and customer-impacting issues within the day-to-day role to management. Responsibilities

  • Conducts employment eligibility investigations by obtaining information to support adjudication decisions in line with federal, state, and corporate requirements.

  • Communicates adverse findings and conducts appropriate internal and external follow ups.

  • Coordinates security aspects of the Background Investigations program in line with industry practices. Identifies and communicates process improvement activities for the program.

  • Leads Security aspects of cross-functional case reviews.

Minimum Qualifications At a minimum, here’s what we need from you:

  • Associate's Degree in Human Resources, Security and Intelligence, Finance, or related field

  • 2+ years of experience in Human Resources, Corporate Security, Risk Management, or related field

Preferred Qualifications If we had our say, we’d also look for:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Security and Intelligence, Pre-law, or Finance (JD highly preferred)

  • 6+ years of experience in Law enforcement, Pre-Law, background investigations, Human Resources, Corporate Security, Risk Management, or related field

  • CFE, CPP or similar

  • Business Writing – Ability to write clear and cohesive sentences and draw justified conclusions from research.

  • Communication – Ability to speak with and document conversations with external applicants, internal business partners, and third-party resources.

  • Organization & Time Management – Ability to independently multi-task in a high volume environment and manage priorities to meet deadlines.

  • Legal & Regulatory Comprehension – Ability to read, understand, interpret, and apply legal statutes under federal, state, and local law, including bills and public acts.

  • Computer Technology – Working knowledge of basic computer hardware and software, including, managing files/folders, using software applications, copying and pasting, creating/saving files in different formats, and uploading and downloading attachments. Ability to use and manage online communication tools. Internet skills including ability to perform online research.
